Less than 40 years, only 5% of funeral directors in the United States were women, and now hovers around the number 43%. The proportion of male and female students in schools of mortuary science has rapidly shifted as 35% in 1995 to a current rate of around 60%.

Interestingly, women historically played an important role in traditional practices of death care. In ancient Greece, women were responsible for dressing, washing and anointing the body. In ancient Hebrew traditions, washing and dressing the dead was considered the dirty work and therefore the task was delegated to women.

Colonial women were also responsible for preparing the dead for burial, as it was considered as a chore, but this tradition has changed in the Civil War era, when soldiers were dying North on Southern soil, and must be preserved to be sent home to be seen by families. Previously, Americans had no knowledge of embalming practices so this practice spread rapidly as families willing to have their husbands, fathers, siblings and children sent home from the battlefields of the south.

What are the parameters of an era

What are the parameters of an era Who can say with certainty exactly when a given period of time began or when the last echoes fading of the good old days have gone bye, finally, go down in history not soon forget Suffice it to say that at some point during the birth of the modern era that goes to the age of reason, leaving behind forever the age of purpose. We bravely went into the science of the times and the certainty and left behind the madness, is the faith and hope. We look forward to negotiate the long-accepted standards and practices of past generations of the greener pastures of cultural freedom. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, the truth, as a concept, the high ground in the general discussion of moral philosophy or social provision as a simulator was devastated and left to die a slow death, prolonged painful.

At this stage, with the background of racial tension and economic catastrophe that finally set to resolve the conflicts created during our own cultural revolution, for better or for worse. We are ready to choose, not just a president or a party, but the final direction of our society. This election will certainly be historic, no matter what the final result. However, the historical importance is not generated because the next president race or sex of the next vice president. What makes this election year is exceptionally important is at stake. They are just choosing to manage the current political convenience or economic stability of a market for profit. The decisions we make in the coming weeks could be the last choice that is given us to do. We are on the verge of great change, a step away from the so often mentioned the slippery slope. Our position as a world power militarily and economically has been the same in the modern age. Even more so has our place in the world as a force for human rights and against oppressive regimes. The years of power and influence that we have enjoyed both as individuals and as a nation, may soon be coming to an end. If we are to maintain the benefits that we enjoy and take for granted must be willing to look our problems with clarity and honesty. We arrived on time and place where choices have to do more complex in nature and most difficult on the merits of fixing unbalanced budgets or ensure a fair minimum wage.
